Ideas for creative details shots

Shooting the details. Itā€™s the first task of the day.
All the small, carefully chosen things that go in to build the vibe and aesthetic of the wedding. Youā€™ve got the invitations, shoes, jewellery, perfumes and rings in hand, now what? We could default to a flat lay or a variation of a flat lay? The details carefully placed together to create an aesthetic and to show everything off together. Itā€™s great and we do love it. Butā€¦

We could be bolder and more daringā€¦

Standard flat lay vibes // non-standard flat lay vibes

Find a juxtaposition instead
Instead of just placing all the items together, try thinking of a juxtaposition. Whatā€™s that?? Wellā€¦ a juxtaposition is:

ā€œthe act or an instance of placing two or more things side by side often to compare or contrast or to create an interesting effectā€

See the juxtaposition above -the details placed into the breakfast cart? Tells the story of the morning perhaps? Love the idea by Danilo and Sharon.

Dive more into the idea of juxtaposition and creativity here but the low down is this: What contrasts and connections can you make between the details you have to shoot and the locations or objects around you? What interesting effect can you capture that helps to tell a story with the details? The champagne and shoes in the sink in the hotel room.. The necklace on the statue in the garden.. The earings on the special magazine..

We love a good flat lay, but detail shots can be much more and we love what these photographers are up to:

NEWS

Happening this Week

  • Champagne and Como. This groom thought he was an F1 winner during the champagne tower at his Lake Como wedding. The bride was not impressed and neither were the commenters.

  • f1.8 zoom lens? Itā€™s rumoured Sigma is about to announce an epic new zoom lens f1.8 28-45mm. Also, we are hearing internal zoom!

  • Canva love. Canva announced a ton of amazing updates at their Canva Create event this week. Even more usable for so much work we photographers do. (link)

  • Are Camera Reviews legit? The recent launch of the new Lumix S9 this week and the swath of reviews that came out from the press event in Japan led long time Youtube creator Gerald Undone to lash out in his video, ā€˜Camera reviews need to change.ā€™ Jump into the discussion here.

  • New Lumix S9. If you are in the market for a new daily, the new Lumix S9 could be worth a look. Hereā€™s a full review at dpreview.

  • Do you check in your gear when you fly? This guy did and very unfortunately, this is what happened.

  • iPhone troubles. Hereā€™s why some deleted iPhone photos keep reappearing and what you can do. (link)

ADOBE

The latest Lightroom update is game changing.

Generative AI inside photoshop made removing object easy. Well, itā€™s even EASIER now. Adobe has integrated some of these features right into Lightroomā€¦ Whaaaat?

The existing heal tools in Lightroom were handy but not great if you need to remove big items. The new ā€œGenerative Removeā€ in Lightroom letā€™s you remove any object in just a couple clicks, not by replacing it with another part of the image, but by generating new pixels entirely. It even gives you a few variants to choose from, just light Photoshop.

Also. The update also includes the AI-powered Lens Blur feature, similar to the iPhoneā€™s portrait mode. Not sure how we are feeling about this one, but it might be fun to play around with!

See this Youtube vid for a more indepth look at the update and features!

INSPO THIS WEEK

ā¬†ļø This Dior x Stone Island Collab has us thinking in colour palettes. We love this idea of integrating colour charts into photos to build a look.

ā¬†ļø Super into these creative frames around Corfu.

ā¬†ļø Not in love with this first image, but the rest of this set are fire. Amazing use of light.
