WEDDINGS

šŸ”“ The Colour Red in Vietnam

Wedding by: hanguyenphoto

Scroll, scroll.

Spend enough time scrolling and the wedding world does start to feel a little same same. So this moment is rare. Seeing something different. Something that makes you stop and go wow.

This week hanguyenphoto posted images from a wedding she captured in the hills of northern Vietnam and we were BLOWN AWAY! Yes by the extra ordinary concept and design of the ceremony area, with the bold red surface and horses, super unique seating and the mirror balls. Yes by the setting, the dress, and the mountain feel. BUT even more so by the way she photographed it and curated it all together.

Oh the details. Wonderfully curated.

Her post on Instagram perfectly shows off a huge range of photographic techniques and ideas that are both timeless and current. From overhead drone shots to show off the grandure of the place. To perfectly framed ceremony moments. (the shot of the mountains through the couple is a winner in amongst a scroll post). To flash work (titled) to fill in the hard sunlight. And documentary shots, shooting past people and over shoulders.

ok, the paper planes does it for us šŸ‘ŒšŸ¼

A huge part of photography is curation.
Itā€™s culling, putting images next to each other, the details you choose, telling a story with the flow of images. And this post hits the nail of the head. The right mix of documentary, portraits details and did we say colour pop? What a way to work the red theme. Now we are not saying selective colour is anywhere near back, but this idea and effect is eye catching. Placing it next to black and white images or images without many other colours in them. It pops!

What do you love?
Many photographers look at weddings like this and lament not getting ā€˜coolā€™ or the ā€˜rightā€™ weddings. ā€œIf only I had such good looking couples, or such amazing details.ā€ The truth is, you CAN go out and create something you love. Whether itā€™s a styled shoot, or getting more involved in the planning process with your couples or planners. It is possible! Speak up! And just like everyone turning their heads to notice this amazing wedding, everyone is waiting to see what you will do when you follow the ideas and inspiration inside you and you actually get out and do something you LOVE.

Thatā€™s exactly what made this wedding, and these photos so amazingā€¦ She kept it simple and just went out and did something she loved. This is from the bride from this wedding:

ā€œI donā€™t want just a pretty wedding. I want a wedding that is mine & mine only. Iā€™ve been obsessed with horses design over the years and when I finally got married to another ā€œhorseā€ guy, itā€™s the only thing I want to have as my ceremony design. And I love red. But If I have a red wedding, Iā€™d like it to be very very red. Therefore, we decided to cover the whole ceremony area with red carpet and arranged mirror effect balloons to reflect the blue sky.ā€

Instagram is bored. So go do something you love.

Huge shout out to hanguyenphoto for her work on this wedding. As well as the other amazing vendors in Vietnam who bought this to life. See more of it in this video here.

What do the olympics and wedding photography have in common?
The answer is Briars Atlas.

Weā€™ve seen some amazing images come out of the Olympics so far. But none better than the stunning compositional images by Geoff Lowe. Check his insta here. Stitching together multiple frames to create something unique for each event. This idea, however, has been done before and in wedding photography! We are long time fans of Oli Sanson (Brairs Atlas) and his amazing work. And since these Olympic images are trending, you need to see who did it first! Follow through to Oliā€™s instagram feed where he links to a break down of how he made these images.
