💉 3 Shots Not to Miss at Weddings

Wedding photography is about a million little choices.

Where to stand, what to say, when to click, and whether or not to kick that phone out of that hand in the aisle…

It’s a million choices about what to focus on.

There are the unmissable moments yes..SNOOZE. But the rest, is completely up to you and your vibe. EXCITING. So today is three prompts to get you a little more excited at your next wedding. Three ideas/perspectives/shots to incorporate into those millions of choices.

1️⃣ OVER SHOULDER SHOTS
Shooting from behind someone, over a shoulder, or past someone is an easy ways to achieve that ‘feeling there’ perspective that is often characteristic of good documentary photography. So maybe don’t push everyone out of the way… Seek out a shoulder or two sometimes. Make everything less about a ‘shot of the thing’ and more, the ‘moment of a person experiencing a thing.’ We also see this shot a lot in landscape orientation… BUT how about trying shooting like this in portrait? ⬇️

2️⃣ GUEST OUTFIT AND DETAIL SHOTS
We all know to shoot guest candids right. But photos that focus on the guests outfits and details are an under utilised way to really build a vibe and aesthetic of a wedding. Bride planned red touches throughout the day? Then focus on the red dresses/details in the crowd. Search out colours, bags, shoes, watches, brands that align with the day and incorporate those. It’s strong way to blur lines between editorial and documentary vibes. ⬇️

3️⃣ LOW ANGLE OBSERVER SHOTS
It sounds obvious, but, your height and the perspective you shoot from affects how your photos feel. Often when we see someone else’s photos of the same moments, they look and feel completely different. Sometimes it just comes down to height. Changing your height by getting low, and bobbing down, is an effective documentary technique to make you feel like an observer. Would any of these photos below feel the same if shot at a standing height? ⬇️
